Shared leadership is the way to go

“I’m willing to listen and learn from others.”

Andre Grobler is the newly elected Kensington Resident and Ratepayers Association (KRRA) chairperson and is looking forward to working with the Kensington community.

He was elected as the new chair at the KRRA’s recent annual general meeting.

“I’m an open-minded person. I’m willing to listen and learn from others,” said Grobler.

He has been living in the Kensington area for over 45 years and is a businessman and published author.

He attended Jeppe Boys High School for Boys and has been involved in the community.

The Jeppe Old Boy said he loves the community and what it stands for.

“I love the charm and the sense of community of the area,” said Grobler.

“As the KRRA committee we have not set plans in place yet. I have been going through the association’s minutes for the past two years.

“I wanted to get a clear understanding of where we are and what needs to be done,” said Grobler.

He said a clear understanding of what challenges there are, will guide them on what they need to do to solve those problems.

“We have a long list of challenges, and a lot of them being service delivery. We want to group those problems in such a way that we can delegate who will deal with what.

“It will help to keep track of what we are doing and identify whether we are winning or not,” said Grobler.

He said the new committee will focus on improving the communication and how they deal with matters.

“We need to be mindful of how we share our information with residents because Kensington is a diverse area. Not everyone is on Facebook or WhatsApp groups.

“We want to look at how we can improve communication with all member of the community.

“It’s important that we share what we do with the community in a way they understand,” said Grobler.

He said they want to work with experts on some of the issues in the area.

“If we want to solve problems and we don’t have the write information it defeats the cause. But if we do our research and pull in the right people to come on board to advise us as the association that will be a win for us. We are looking at working with experts within our community. Sharing information is important because we don’t know everything,” said Grobler.

He said residents need to remember what KRRA stands for and what it’s all about.

“We are a community forum and we want what is best for our area.

“We urge residents to support initiatives like Clean Village. They make a difference in our community and when such initiatives happen in the area we should support them as a community,” said Grobler.
