To mark Youth Day the Malvern-based Vulinkungu Community Youth Group held a celebration.

The girls-only Zulu traditional dancers broke out in excited rhythm to the amazement of passers-by milling about the streets.

The members of the youth group perform a routine at the Youth Day celebrations.

Ndlela also volunteers as a victim support counsellor at Cleveland SAPS.

She said it was important for the youngsters to commemorate the occasion in order to grasp its importance.

A procession is formed during the dance routine.

“We encouraged them to steer clear of the social-ills impacting the community by participating in events and community gatherings.

“I also educate them about how they ought to behave or carry themselves as young girls. Ultimately, I don’t want them to be exposed to all the bad things that happen on the streets,” explained Ndlela.

She said parents have commended the positive changes in behaviour that they have seen in their children since they started participating in the youth group.

Ndlela welcomes any assistance to the group. Contact her on 062 480 5413.
