The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) has high hopes and gives the Senderwood community props for taking on the task of adopting the Chaucer Road Park.
In the beginning of April, the Senderwood, St Andrew’s and Bedford Park Ratepayers Association officially adopted the Chaucer Road Park through the “silver adoption agreement” within CoE.
On the application process, CoE spokesperson Themba Gadebe said the campaign was approved by council 10 years ago, which states any company, club or individual may adopt a park after applying to the City through the metro parks and cemeteries division.
He said the community does have to stick to certain guidelines within the adoption.

“Provision is made for three different types of adoption – each type has certain specifications to be adhered to,” said Gadebe.
Gadebe said the contract may be terminated if the community does not adhere to standards and procedure.
“They will maintain the park, which include grass cutting, weeding, plant maintenance, tree maintenance, playground equipment, park furniture, refuse bins, hard surfaces and fencing,” said Gadebe.
Gadebe said CoE applauds the community’s involvement in parks and believe the park will be well maintained and looked after.
