#WeRead: South African Book Fair in September

Highlights include a superhero drawing session with award-winning author Sifiso Mzobe.

Get ready for the South African Book Fair at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg from September 6 to 8.

The fair will be jam-packed with fun and enriching reading content.

Experts in learning and teaching materials will be on hand to share their insights with parents, guardians and children on what books to read for learning and fun.

Among the many family highlights will be Stories of Africa by Gcina Mhlophe, a multi-lingual storytelling activist and poet.

Acclaimed Dance of the Dung Beetles scientist Marcus Byrne and writer Helen Lunn will highlight the mysterious lives of dung beetles through 3 000 years of history and mythology.

Free performances will also take place in the National Book Week Magic Tent and toddlers to grandparents are welcome to join in a celebration.

Appearances will be by Funda Bala, the National Book Week reading mascot.

The Gruffalo will also be there and the multilingual reading of Julia Donaldson.

isiZulu storyteller Zanele Ndlovu will bring ancient tales to life through Umakhwenyana accompanied by the strings of her indigenous music instruments.

The fair will include a focus on the role of visual storytelling that can be experienced in multiple ways.

The Illustrator’s Exhibition will feature the work of children’s and comic book illustrators.

Find Your SA Art Heroes will present renowned art expert Dr Cobi Labuschagne and designer Lauren Mulligan.

They will take youngsters on a journey of discovery through the world of contemporary South African art.

With more than 100 authors, poets, storytellers, creators, and expert facilitators, the three-day event cannot be missed.

There are a limited number of tickets available for parents and children to attend as the fair is a dedicated schools programme.
