Young entrepreneurs in the making at BPS

Grade Seven teacher Mrs Tharen Naidoo said the Market Day was planned for over four weeks and is part of the EMS curriculum

Bedfordview Primary School Grade Seven learners put on their business hats at their Market Day on August 29.

Grade Seven teacher Mrs Tharen Naidoo said the Market Day was planned for over four weeks and is part of the Economic and Management Sciences (EMS) curriculum.

Grade Seven learners have a Market Day every year at BPS.

“The learners have to produce a business plan with an income and expenditure report,” said Naidoo.

She said all the Grade Seven learners are involved in the Market Day, making sure they set up all aspects of their business stalls.

Zaahid Saley sold popcorn, Divaksha Moodley sold candy and crafts and Keanu de Jesus sold vetkoek and soft drinks.

Naidoo said the learners are the sole proprietors of their businesses.

“We want the learners to be great entrepreneurs one day. We charged them R10 for the stall, with a number of other business aspects they needed to cover. They will, however, keep all of their profit,” said Naidoo.

The learners had a number of stalls with a lot of goods on sale, such as doughnuts, cake and soft drinks.

“It is great to see all the learners have such drive to own a business and be the best entrepreneurs they can be,” said Naidoo.
