Bennies host CANSA Swim Relay

CANSA Relay for Life hopes to see many new faces at the event next year, with announcements coming soon.

The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) hosted its first ‘CANSA Swim Relay’ on September 8 at St Benedict’s College.

The fund-raising event formed part of CANSA’s Relay For Life, East Rand’s goal to help raise funds for the local CANSA Care Centres in Gauteng.

“Every year over 115 000 people in South Africa are affected by cancer. Participants were challenged to be part of swimming a total of 115 000 lengths to recognise these individuals touched by cancer, and to raise awareness and funds for CANSA Care Centres in Gauteng,” said Sonia Pretorius, Volunteer Organiser and cancer survivor.

Pretorius, who is also a Global Hero of Hope ambassador, said the event was aimed at non-swimmers, the average swimmer who is keen to stay fit, as well as serious swimmers who want to use this as a training session, and to be part of the event.

“The event was a great success and all participants enjoyed the event.

“There was a wonderful atmosphere throughout the day, and an amazing sense of giving and achievement.

“CANSA Relay for Life, East Rand, would like to thank every participant who took time out of their busy schedule to support such a worthy cause,”said Pretorius.
