Man arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

Officers on duty received information about a man who was seen carrying a firearm in Jeppestown.

A 36-year-old man was arrested on October 9 for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

According to Jeppe SAPS spokesperson Capt Richard Munyayi officers on duty received information about a man who was seen carrying a firearm in Jeppestown.

“The officers received a description and proceeded to Main Street in Jeppestown where the man fitting the description was found inside a building,” said Munyayi.

The officers searched him and found him in possession of a black revolver with one spent cartridge.

“Officers requested the man’s firearm licence but he could not produce it. The firearm’s serial number was filed off. He was arrested and taken to Jeppe SAPS where he was charged and detained,” said Munyayi.
