LATEST: City of Johannesburg computer systems HACKED – e-services down

As a result, several customer-facing systems such as; city’s website, e-services, billing system and call centre have been shut down as a precautionary measure.

Yesterday, the City of Johannesburg detected a network breach which resulted in unauthorised access to its information systems.

The incident is currently being investigated by City of Joburg cybersecurity experts, who have taken immediate and appropriate actions to reinforce security measures and mitigate any potential impacts.

As a result, several customer-facing systems such as; City’s website, E-services, Billing system and Call centre have been shut down as a precautionary measure.

The investigation, which is set to take 24 hours, means that customers will not be able to transact on e-services or log queries via the City’s Call Centre or Customer Walk In Centres.

All emergency calls have been diverted to the Provincial Call Centre (112).

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

These alternative ways of logging should work during the shutdown:

  • Water (leaks, meters, sewerage)

– Log via email on customer@jwater.co.za

  • Electricity (outages, street lights, smart meters)

– Log online at citypower.mobi

  • Roads (potholes, street signs, sidewalks, storm water)

– Log via email on hotline@jra.org.za
