With 2020 in full swing, Ward 19 councillor, Bill Rundle, is rested and ready for the year ahead.
Rundle described last year as a good year during which several large projects in his ward were completed.
These included the City of Ekurhuleni’s approval of 12 traffic calming measures, the remediation of Sixth and Central avenues bridges and working with EMPD to address vagrants in Edenvale.
This year Rundle hopes to continue with the momentum of last year’s successes and has his eyes set on several projects.
He hopes to see the remediation of the Eastleigh Spruit near Central Avenue Bridge completed.
Last year he told the NEWS approximately R200 000 was still needed to complete the project.
Besides the completion of the Central Road Avenue Bridge, Rundle hopes that more attention will be given to re-mediating the entire length of the Eastleigh Spruit.
Aside from the Spruit, Rundle looks forward to working with EMPD again this year to reduce speeding.
Something he would like done, to try to reduce speeding in town, is the installation of at least one permanent traffic camera on Linksfield Road.

Rundle hopes to see the construction of traffic calming measures in the yellow island near the intersection of Linksfield Road and First Avenue.
“Presently, some motorists drive through the yellow island straight into Second Street, which has three lanes.
“This will create problems in the future as the CoE is set to reduce the number of lanes on Second Street from three to two.”
He said the proposed development near Sizwe Tropical Disease Hospital will also receive his undivided attention.
“The tribunal has made a decision, but we are still waiting for its announcement.”
If approved by the tribunal, it could result in the construction of a housing development.
Sticking on the topic of housing, Rundle hopes to play a greater role in preventing the demolition of old houses, specifically in Edenvale’s older suburbs such as Dunvegan.
Like previous years, Rundle would like to see community members play a greater role in engaging with the CoE throughout 2020.
He urged community members to have a say and how the CoE spends their money and to report service delivery matters to the municipality as soon as possible.
Community members can report service delivery issues to the call centre on 0860 543 000 or call.centre@ekurhuleni.gov.za or the municipality’s mobile application.
Rundle wished community members a happy and prosperous new year.
