#Coronavirus: Khanyisa Soup Kitchen takes precautions but continues to feed the needy

Although the soup kitchen is now following preventative measures, it continues to assist the community through its feeding scheme.

In response to the rise of the number of Covid-19 cases in SA, Khanyisa Trust and Soup Kitchen implemented the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the virus.

“Business as usual was not an option for us nor is closing the soup kitchen. That will not fit with our aim and objective,” said chairperson of the trust Deon Gerber.

For years the trust’s soup kitchen has assisted those in need by providing them with a warm meal each day.

The soup kitchen’s sit-down meals have been placed on hold until further notice.

The trust extended its feeding scheme hours and implemented a take-away system for those less fortunate.

The NEWS visited the soup kitchen on March 18 when a group of beneficiaries patiently waited to receive their meals.

Before entering the property to receive their meals, beneficiaries had their hands sanitised.

Gerber said the beneficiaries were understanding of the precautions implemented.
