Eastleigh Hospice shop still going strong
“I enjoy working in the charity shop as I know where the money goes and know people receive assistance.”
The Hospice East Rand’s Eastleigh charity shop has been part of Edenvale for the past 20 years.
Managed by Lydia Batchelor, who is assisted by 21 volunteers, the store generates much-needed funds for the organisation.
Eastrand Hospice relies heavily on the donations from the community and the funds generated at the charity shops.
Lydia, who has been the manager for the past 18 years, was a volunteer for two years before taking up the leadership role.
She said the shop is blessed to have so many volunteers who assist her with the day-to-day running of the shop.
The volunteers who assist for half the day vary in age, from middle-aged individuals to pensioners.
“I enjoy working in the charity shop as I know where the money goes and know people receive assistance.”
She said the community of Edenvale is a giving community and has assisted the shop greatly by providing items over the years.
Lydia said if community members are looking for great deals and quality products, they should pay a visit to the shop.
Those who are emigrating or downsizing should consider donating items they no longer need to the shop.
To learn more about the shop, visit it and say hello to the team at 27 Central Avenue (011 452 0480).
