Modderfontein Bowling Club looking to attract young players

Have your say on local sports.

Modderfontein Bowling Club is looking to attract younger players. The bowls community and members of the club were asked why young people should take up bowls and not see it as “marbles for old men”.

This is what they had to say:

Angelique Wait: “It will teach younger players self-discipline and to follow the rules. Many people think it is a game of chance, but it requires skill and practice, and they will also learn how to take a loss gracefully.”
Johan Thome: “It’s a good sport to develop skills for young people and teach them how to concentrate. They will also be receiving free coaching from good players.”
Robby Casslett: “Young people do well in bowls. The Proteas team players are all under 40. The game will teach them how to strategise and use tact because it is a psychological game that requires 80 per cent of the mind and 20 per cent of the physical.”
