Edenvale SAPS identify decrease in crime in week 1 of lockdown

“The lockdown may have had an impact on the number of crimes but it is too early to tell.”

Since the implementation of the nationwide lockdown on March 27 Edenvale SAPS identified a decrease in crime.

Edenvale SAPS spokesperson Sgt Jacob Mashile said between March 27 and April 1 there was a noticeable decrease in the number of criminal incidents in the station’s precinct.

“The lockdown may have had an impact on the number of crimes but it is too early to tell,” said Mashile.

He told community members to continue to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to 10111.

Mashile urged community members to obey the lockdown and adhere to the regulations put in place by the government.

He said community members should not leave their homes unnecessarily.

Mashile said no large gatherings of any kinds have been brought to the attention to the station.

“If community members do leave their homes it should only be to buy food, medicine or if there is an emergency.

“While out of their homes, community members must take precautions, be tolerable and understanding of one another.”
