Electrical fault suspected to have caused Avenues fire

“The cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical fault from a cable supplying electricity to the shack.”

No fatalities were recorded when a structure caught fire on a residential property in the Avenues.
On June 16, firefighters from Edenvale Fire Station responded to the fire in Third Avenue.
City of Ekurhuleni’s Department of Emergency Management Services acting spokesperson Eric Maloka said when firefighters arrived, they found a shack on fire.
Soon after arriving, firefighters extinguished the blaze.

The portion of the residential property ti which the shack was attached.

Maloka said the shack was attached to the side of the residential property, which did not sustain any major damage.
“The cause of the fire was suspected to be an electrical fault from a cable supplying electricity to the shack.”
With winter upon us and the increased use of electricity during this period the following tips were provided:
• Check your electrical cords for any visible cracks and damage.
• Don’t overload the wall outlet/plugs, they are meant to carry a limited amount of output.
• Make sure all heating sources are switched off after use.
• Avoid creating any illegal connection.
