RRW family sticks together during tough times
“We have always looked out for each other and the community RRW Edenvale is a family-based club.”
In a time of need members of the Rand Road Warriors Edenvale Running Club rallied together to help some of their own.
At the end of May, the club had raised a little over R11 000, which will be distributed to members who find themselves in financially challenging circumstances.
Founder and secretary of the club Vernon Cloete said several members have already been helped.
He said during lockdown it was brought to the committee’s attention that one of the members needed assistance.
Cloete said although the club has money in its account it cannot be distributed among members.
As a registered NPO, the club is bound by regulations ensuring funds it collects is only donated to other NPOs and charities.
“We had to explain to some members that although we had money in our account it could not be touched.”
“We need to have funds in our account in case we cannot find sponsors for the annual Edenvale Marathon and need to host it ourselves.”
Once alerted of the situation, club chairperson Simon Woodward asked Vernon to appeal to those who could to donate.
“It was nice to see other members take out of their own pockets and give back.”
“We have always looked out for each other and the community RRW Edenvale is a family-based club.”
As each member’s situation is different the club handles each situation separately.
“As we progress through the year the club would like to continue this initiative in the hopes of helping others.”
