Three motorists were arrested during a two-day operation held by the EMPD last week.
In Bedfordview on August 23, a man from Mpumalanga was caught travelling at 204km/h on the N3 between Gillooly’s Interchange and the Linksfield Road off-ramp.
When questioned by officers, the 47-year-old man stated he was rushing his friend to the nearest hospital after noticing Covid-19 symptoms.
The man was arrested and taken to the Bedfordview Police Station, while his passenger denied being infected with the virus when confronted by officers.

Over the same weekend, two others were arrested for excessive speeding in Alberton.
A 34-year-old man was arrested for travelling at 168km/h with his nine-year-old son allegedly to fetch a birthday cake.
The third arrest was that of a 23-year-old woman caught travelling at 174km/h, who cited she was late for a dentist appointment.
The three apprehended were charged with reckless and negligent driving and will appear in the Palm Ridge and Germiston magistrate’s courts soon.
