A 26-year-old male driver in a VW Polo was caught driving at 179km/h on the N12 east in Bedfordview on October 4.
The driver alleged that he was late for work, before he was handcuffed.
Five other motorists between the ages of 31 and 40 were also caught speeding on the same stretch of highway.
They were caught travelling at between 164km/h and 172km/h.
All those arrested face charges of reckless and negligent driving and will appear in the Germiston and Palm Ridge magistrate’s courts soon.
