Guards airlifted after suspects ambush cash-in-transit van on P91

“While shooting at the van, officers from Sebenza SAPS Crime Prevention Unit arrived at the scene and were shot at by the suspects.”

Two cash-in-transit guards required medical attention after their vehicle was ambushed by armed suspects on the P91 Modderfontein Road.

Sebenza SAPS spokesperson Sgt Sharon Tsotsotso said the robbery occurred near the Laurie Road intersection on October 26.

She said the suspects fired at the CIT vehicle with riffles.  

“While shooting at the van, officers from Sebenza SAPS Crime Prevention Unit arrived at the scene and were shot at by the suspects.”

“Officers returned fire and the suspects used explosives to gain access to the van.”

Tsotsotso said the suspects fled the scene in a white VW Golf 7 and a white Ford Ranger with an unknown amount of money.

“The guards, both of whom were shot in the upper body, were airlifted to hospital for medical treatment.”

Tsotsotso urged anyone with information to contact the police on 10111, 0860010111 or 011 400 6000 (Sebenza Police Station).
