Basil and Joseph shine in geography Olympiad
Two-thousand-five-hundred candidates participated countrywide in the Olympiad.
Saheti School learners Basil Katakuzinos in Grade 12 and Joseph Li in Grade 11 have excelled in the South African National Geography Olympiad.
Basil achieved overall third place with his research on The Risks and Benefits of Widespread Mass and Public Surveillance.
Joseph was placed joint fourth with his research on The Relationship Between Human Productivity and Temperature.

Two-thousand-five-hundred candidates participated countrywide in the Olympiad.
Round one was question-based.
The top 25 qualified for round two in which candidates submitted a research project.
The South African National Geography Olympiad, endorsed by the Royal Geographical Society (RGS) and set to international standards, was held in May.
It was hosted by the Southern African Geography Teachers’ Association and the Society of South African Geographers.
The emphasis this year was on World Geography with a focus on Eurasian Continental Divide and the RGS Bonus Section: the Antarctic continent and the 2019 Weddell Sea Expedition.
