Families to keep memories of teenagers alive in Edenvale
“We are not going to let Lekisha, Renato and James be forgotten, they are going to be known for years to come, their legacy will live on.”
It was an emotional day for the Dielo, McFarlane and Munro families as they came together to honour the lives and legacies of Renato Dielo, James McFarlane and Lekisha Munro on November 6.

They gathered at the scene of the fatal collision on Andries Pretorius Road, where they erected crosses, laid flowers and said some words in honour of the teenagers.
They were joined by loved ones, friends and community members.
The single-vehicle collision which caused the teenagers’ deaths occurred on November 5, 2020, when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a perimeter wall.

Renato and James died on the evening of the collision, while Lekisha died the following day in ICU.
Speaking on behalf of the three families, Richard Munro said it had been an extremely emotional time for the families.
“We will never understand why they were taken away from us, but we trust in the Lord and hope He knows exactly what He was doing.”
Richard said over the period of the last year, the three families have remained in contact and have thought about each other as much as possible.

Speaking to the crowd, he said, “We know you all think of Lekisha, Renato and James and we have heard through the various matric dances and valedictory speeches what they meant to you.
“We are extremely touched, all of us. Words cannot explain how thankful we are.”
Besides having received support from family and friends, Richard highlighted that the three families had received support from the communities of Edenvale, Bedfordview and other areas over the course of the year.
At the event, the families, with assistance from Edenvale businesses, had organised donations of milk, bread and water.

“I read up on James, Renato and Lekisha, all three of them had extremely good hearts and were giving back.”
Richard encouraged those in attendance to continue the good work of the teenagers by taking some bread and milk and sharing it with those in need.
The water was shared with those in attendance.
“This is the three families’ way of continuing their legacy.”
Richard said after having discussions, the families hope to continue with this initiative in the years to come.
“We are not going to let Lekisha, Renato and James be forgotten. They are going to be known for years to come, their legacy will live on.”
The families thanked Franco from Edenglen, Central Build It and Pick n Pay Eden Terrace for their donations.
