Artwork showcased at Petra’s Edu-Playgroup

Art from Grade R learners at the school featured radial symmetry.

Petra’s Edu-Playgroup hosted its annual art exhibition recently.
The exhibition featured artworks created by the children during the year.
“We allow the children to draw their own art by observing closely, never using photocopied pages or giving them templates,” said principal Petra Queiros.

The learners had to divide a page into quarters in order to design and plan their artwork.
This was then transferred onto calico before it was transferred onto a fabric-painted tablecloth.
“We had a few groups making clay animals and sea creatures, amazing body image works of art, flamingo birds and sea creature observational paintings.”
Several of the works created were also loose part installations.
“Our whole school theme was observational drawings of butterflies. Learners throughout the school created artworks in two or more languages of expression, such as pencil only, pencil and crayons or pencil and watercolour.
“The children amazed us with their fantastic observational skills,” said Petra.
At the exhibition, parents were invited to enjoy a glass of wine while browsing through the artworks on show.
