Each girl takes part and is encouraged to unleash her creative and imaginative skills.
Apart from a demonstration to Grade Eight learners, the girls are not given any formal instruction in the art of flower arranging.
Many find they have a natural talent and enjoy expressing themselves in this creative medium.
Girls are encouraged to enter as many of the categories of the show as possible; there are usually over 2 000 arrangements submitted each year.
The seniors (Grades 10 to 12) may enter two to three home-grown blooms or choose from categories ranging from #JustMakeItPretty, Symphony in Pink and Gorgeous in Glass to Sassy Succulents, Things that Inspire Me, Ah Africa Our Heritage Splendour and Lavender and Roses an arrangement for the covid-19 frontline workers and dedicated to those who lost their lives during the pandemic.
The categories for the juniors (Grade Eight and Nine) range from #BloomingLego– Lego turns 90!, Shades of Green and Arrangement in a Teacup to Crazy Daisies, Tickled Pink, Accessorise – using a perfume bottle to connect fragrance and flowers, Blissful Bees – honouring the lovely relationship between bees and flowers and Magnificent Monsters to be made out of vegetables.
Every arrangement is judged and the girls are awarded points for their houses.
Judges are drawn from people who have been connected to the school and particularly to the flower show or people in the flower and garden business.
The old girls can also take part in the flower show and their arrangements form part of the interhouse competition.
The flower show is open to the public from 14:30 to 17:30 on February 25 and from 08:00 to 12:00 on February 26.
Entrance to the show will be R10 for adults and R5 for children.
Refreshments will be on sale and secure parking is available on the lower grounds of the school.
