Former Edenvale CBD business owner Jorge Peres charged with murder of wife

Bail was denied and the case was postponed to January 2023.

Jorge Peres was denied bail when he appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder earlier today.

Peres was arrested in the early hours of November 24 after the murder of his wife, Belinda

The Bedfordview and Edenvale NEWS previously reported that a former Edenvale CBD business owner had been arrested for the murder of his wife at The Reid in Linbro Park.

At the time, he could not be identified as he had not yet appeared in court and had been hospitalised.

Peres is facing a charge of murder schedule five and the case was postponed to January 23.

The court found that Peres had initially fled the scene and had the financial means to flee, hence bail was denied.

Sandringham Police Station’s communications officer Sergeant Phindile Mavuso previously told the NEWS the victim had sustained several stab wounds and was declared dead on the scene.

“They found the suspect hiding on top of an electricity box 100m from the scene, inside the complex,” Mavuso said.
