Seven suspected cash-in-transit robbers caught in Bedfordview

The group committed a robbery in Primrose on the same day as the arrests.

Seven suspected cash-in-transit robbers, aged between 31 and 48, were arrested near Eastgate shopping centre in Bedfordview on October 20.

Hawks spokesperson Col Katlego Mogale said information was received that the group planned to follow a complainant as he left the bank.

The information was followed up which led the multi-disciplinary team to Bruma.

The team members were observing the suspects when they received information that the suspects had committed an armed robbery in Primrose on the same day.

The suspects’ vehicles were spotted near Eastgate.

“The team contained the three vehicles which included a silver Mercedes Benz CLA, a maroon Ford Fiesta and a white BMW 1 Series,” said Mogale.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the BMW was sought on a Linden case which was registered in August 2023 and the suspects were sought for another robbery, a cash in-transit robbery in Cosmo City last month.

The investigating team recovered two unlicensed handguns with ammunition, rifle ammunition, cellphones, gloves, and the victim’s belongings.

The suspects will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on October 23 on charges of armed robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.

The suspects’ vehicles included this maroon Ford Fiesta, a silver Mercedes Benz CLA and a white BMW 1 Series.
