Three cops shot, injured when Klopperpark man holds wife and children hostage

The man surrendered after he released the hostages.

A man (38) was arrested after he allegedly shot and injured three police officers.

The officers responded to a hostage situation on the morning of February 25.

Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo said officers received a complaint at about 07:00 about a woman and children who were held hostage by her husband in Klopperpark.

As the police arrived at the house, the suspect fired shots at responding officers and also shot a family friend, who was also inside the house.

“The SAPS hostage negotiator and task team were summoned to the scene. The suspect released all the other victims and surrendered himself to the police.

“He was charged on four counts of attempted murder, kidnapping and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm,” said Masondo.

The injured police officers and the family friend were taken to the nearest medical care centre in serious but stable conditions.
