Four suspects busted in checkpoint by Edenvale SAPS

“On one of the male passengers an illegal firearm as well as ammunition was found and recovered,” said Mashile.

Four suspects were arrested after Edenvale SAPS and partners conducted a vehicle checkpoint in town.

Held on February 5, along Horwood Road, the checkpoint saw Edenvale SAPS’ crime prevention members, sector managers and Crime Prevention Wardens join forces.

According to Edenvale Police Station’s acting Vispol commander and communications officer, Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, while doing vehicle checks and searches a red Mercedes Benz was stopped.

“Officers introduced themselves to the driver before they requested permission to search the vehicle and the passengers.”

“On one of the male passengers an illegal firearm as well as ammunition was found and recovered,” said Mashile.

He said the person was also found to be in the possession of Mandrax.

Mashile said the suspect was taken to Edenvale Police Station for processing.

The male suspect was charged with possession of unlicensed firearm and the possession of drugs.

In addition to the arrest and recovery of the firearm, three illegal immigrants were arrested and processed.

Station commander Colonel Ntombomzi Basholo thanked and congratulated the members for the arrests.
