Illegal cannabis shop raided in Edenvale, 21-year-old arrested

The suspect will appear in Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in dagga, highlighting the municipality’s commitment to cracking down on illicit substances.

The CoE confirmed that a joint law enforcement operation in Edenvale led to the closure of an illegal cannabis shop and the arrest of a 21-year-old.

According to the municipality, the EMPD’s Drug Enforcement Unit, the K9 Unit and SAPS officers carried out Operation Shanela on August 15.

Acting on a tip-off, they raided a premises on Eastleigh Street suspected of selling illicit substances.

Upon entering the shop, the police asked for cultivation and manufacturing documents, which the 21-year-old could not produce.

Officers confiscated cannabis products, including 68 red containers of dagga, 55 blue containers, 23 grey containers, four orange containers and 150 ready-rolled joints, with an estimated street value of R10 000.

The illegal cannabis shop on Eastleigh Street is shut down.

They arrested and detained the 21-year-old at the Edenvale Police Station. He will soon appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court on charges of dealing in dagga.

The city commended the operation, saying it reflected the municipality’s ongoing efforts to combat the trade of illicit substances and safeguard communities.
