Power restored in Bedfordview after cable theft attempt at Croydon substation

The City of Ekurhuleni has confirmed that electricity supply in Bedfordview has been fully restored after an attempted cable theft caused a power outage.

The City of Ekurhuleni has restored power to all Bedfordview residents following a supply interruption caused by tampering at Eskom’s Croydon substation on Sunday.

According to the city, the outage was the result of an attempted cable theft at the substation, which left parts of Bedfordview and the surrounding areas without electricity.

The city has apologised for the inconvenience caused to residents and businesses, and thanked the community for their patience and co-operation while technicians worked to restore supply.

“We sincerely appreciate the understanding of all customers in Bedfordview and nearby areas during the restoration process,” a statement read.

The City of Ekurhuleni has urged residents to report any suspicious activity near electricity infrastructure to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
