Ekurhuleni court jails foreign national for explosives possession

A 38-year-old Zimbabwean national arrested in Ekurhuleni has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of explosives, with a further 12 months for violating immigration laws.

Zimbabwean national Trueman Madondo was sentenced by the Benoni Magistrate’s Court to 10 years’ imprisonment for possession of explosives and an additional 12 months for contravening the Immigration Act.

The sentences will run concurrently.

The 38-year-old was arrested on February 23, 2024, on Snake Road by members of the Visible Policing (Vispol) Unit.

Following his arrest, the docket was handed to Benoni SAPS detective Sergeant Kgetsi Mankge, who investigated and gathered evidence that led to a conviction.

Ekurhuleni district commissioner Major General Anna Sithole welcomed the conviction and praised Mankge for making an impact in addressing illegal mining and crime in Benoni.
