SAPS appeal for information related to Edenvale CBD shooting

Edenvale SAPS has appealed to the public for information after a Mamba Security reaction officer was shot and killed during a business robbery on Van Riebeeck Avenue.

Edenvale SAPS is appealing to the public for any information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects involved in the shooting of a reaction officer in Edenvale CBD.

The officer was shot and killed on March 6 outside a business on Van Riebeeck Avenue.

According to Ekurhuleni North SAPS spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, police are investigating a case of business robbery and murder.

She said three men were involved in the commission of the crime.

Sekgobela said, “The complainant stated that he was on duty at a supermarket located along Van Riebeeck Avenue when he saw two men enter the store.

“The men demanded money from him while he was behind the till.”

She said the employee pressed the panic button for Mamba Security to respond.

“The security officer from Mamba Security arrived while the suspects were still inside the store.

“While the two suspects were busy taking an undisclosed amount of money from the till, the complainant heard a gunshot and saw the security officer falling.”

Sekgobela said at this point the complainant realised the security officer had been shot.

She said one of the suspects took a firearm from the security officer.

“All the suspects fled the scene on foot.

“An ambulance was called; however, the security officer was certified dead,” said Sekgobela.

She said no suspects have been arrested. Edenvale SAPS has appealed to the community for assistance, requesting anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects to come forward.
