Edenvale police operation results in arrests and vehicle impoundments
Multi-agency crackdown targets crime hotspots, resulting in arrests, vehicle impoundments and traffic fines during Safer Easter Season operations.
SAPS hit Edenvale with the full might of the law during a Safer Easter Season Operation in town.
Joined by fellow law enforcement agencies such as EMPD, Gauteng Traffic, Home Affairs, private security and the Edenvale CPF, the operation was described by Ekurhuleni North SAPS spokesperson Neldah Sekgobela as a success.
She said law enforcement conducted operations throughout town, focusing on narcotics, illegal liquor outlets, and other illegal operations in town.

A roadblock was also conducted on Van Riebeeck Avenue.
“Acting District Commissioner Brigadier David Ngcobo led the operation from the front.
“He was joined by senior officers and officers from other law enforcement agencies,” said Sekgobela.

Brig Ngcobo participated in the search for stolen vehicles and in assessing vehicles for roadworthiness.
The brigadier also assisted in the search for stolen goods.
Arrests from the Edenvale operation:
• 39 Illegal immigrants detained.
• 16 Traffic fines issued to the value of R 4300.
• Six vehicles were impounded for being unroadworthy.
• One suspect arrested for drunk and driving.
• One suspect was arrested for dagga.
Through the work of Ekurhuleni detectives, a further 196 suspects were arrested.
The suspects were arrested for contact crime (127), property crimes (9), gender based violence (27) and other serious crimes (57).

Sekgobela said that, in parallel with the operations, members of the Social Crime Prevention unit and other stakeholders conducted crime awareness campaigns at local shopping malls.
She said they distributed pamphlets containing safety tips to address crime.
