Bedfordview motorist arrested for alleged drunk driving

A 54-year-old man was arrested in Bedfordview after metro police officers allegedly found him driving under the influence of alcohol during a routine patrol on Barbara Road.

A man was arrested following an operation by the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD).

According to the EMPD, officers from the Germiston North Precinct were conducting patrols on Barbara Road when they stopped a white VW Polo sedan for inspection.

During their interaction with the driver, officers allegedly noticed signs that he was under the influence of alcohol.

A breathalyser test was conducted and reportedly produced a reading of 0.57mg/l, which exceeded the legal limit.

The motorist was then escorted to a nearby medical facility, where blood samples were taken for further analysis.

He was subsequently arrested and detained at Bedfordview Police Station.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol.
