One man killed, another kidnapped in apparent attack on N3 on-ramp

Police are investigating a murder and kidnapping after one man was shot dead and another was abducted on the N3 on-ramp from Van Buuren Road.

A man was shot dead and another abducted during an attack on the N3 on-ramp from Van Buuren Road in Bedfordview on the afternoon of July 9, prompting a police investigation into murder and kidnapping.

According to Bedfordview SAPS communications officer Sergeant Lillian Modiga, the incident occurred at about 13:30 on July 9.

It is believed the two men were travelling in a vehicle when they were forced to stop by an unknown number of suspects.

One of the occupants was allegedly kidnapped, while the other was shot dead.

Modiga said information gathered at the scene indicates the deceased attempted to escape by getting out of the vehicle but was gunned down a few metres from where it came to a stop on the Van Buuren Road on-ramp to the N3.

The suspects’ vehicle has not yet been identified and the motive for the attack remains unknown.

Bedfordview SAPS and Germiston forensic services are on the scene, and the area remains an active crime scene.

The suspects are still at large, and the kidnapped victim remains missing.

Motorists are advised that the N3 on-ramp from Van Buuren Road has been closed and are urged to use alternative routes while police continue their investigation.
