The City of Ekurhuleni, in partnership with Rand Water and government stakeholders, is working on immediate and long-term solutions to restore water supply in Bedfordview.
The City of Ekurhuleni has acknowledged the ongoing water supply challenges affecting the Bedfordview community and expressed sympathy to all residents and businesses impacted by the disruptions.

A key part of the plan is maintaining the Klipfontein reservoir levels above 50% to ensure adequate pressure for Bedfordview.
Currently, the reservoir levels are at 41%, below the optimal threshold.
To address this, a high-level meeting was held on September 28, led by Executive Mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza and attended by the Rand Water chairperson, city executive and general manager.
Rand Water is committed to raising and sustaining the Klipfontein reservoir levels above 50% as an immediate measure to alleviate current shortages.
The city also inspected the recently refurbished Signal Hill reservoir, which underwent R4m in resealing and refurbishment work.
At the time of inspection, there was no incoming water supply from the Rand Water system, highlighting the need for ongoing collaboration to ensure all infrastructure is fully operational and integrated.

Looking ahead, a permanent solution is being developed through the construction of the new O6 Rand Water pipeline, scheduled for commissioning in the first quarter of 2026.
This project is expected to significantly increase supply capacity and address high peak demand, ensuring a more reliable water supply to Bedfordview.
The City of Ekurhuleni reaffirmed its dedication to resolving the water supply issues and will continue working closely with all stakeholders to implement both short- and long-term solutions.
“We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this challenging period. We shall work tirelessly together with all stakeholders to ensure that we resolve the water challenge,” said Xhakaza.
