EMPD boosts operations with new vehicle fleet for the festive season

The EMPD has strengthened its law enforcement capacity with 68 new vehicles to enhance visibility and response times ahead of the festive season.

The EMPD has added a new fleet of 68 vehicles to its operations as part of efforts to improve safety and visibility during the festive season.

The fleet consists of 50 VW Polos, 10 VW GTIs, and eight motorbikes, which will be deployed across the City of Ekurhuleni to boost both crime prevention and traffic policing.

According to the city, the new vehicles will enable metro police officers to respond more quickly and efficiently to incidents and public complaints, particularly during periods when crime levels tend to rise.

The EMPD’s new fleet includes VW Polos, GTIs and motorbikes to strengthen law enforcement visibility this festive season.

Community Safety MMC Ald Sizakele Masuku said the intervention comes at a crucial time.

“This could not have come at a better moment, considering that crime levels increase during the festive season.

“As the EMPD, we have already devised a plan to utilise the vehicles optimally so that our residents can have a safer festive season and beyond,” said Masuku.

She emphasised the importance of providing law enforcement officers with the right tools to tackle lawlessness in the region effectively.

Masuku also called on residents to remain alert during the holidays and to report any criminal activity or misuse of EMPD resources.

“We encourage communities to report any abuse of EMPD vehicles because these are meant solely for law enforcement purposes,” she said.

The city confirmed that the new fleet is already operational across various areas of Ekurhuleni, supporting the department’s ongoing festive season safety campaign.
