Stats SA visits Edenvale

“Additionally, staff can be verified by contacting the Stats SA provincial office.”

To gain information from residents and households, Stats SA field staff hit the streets of Edenvale.

Identifiable by their Stats SA ID cards and branded vehicles, the staff started at households in Hurlyvale on October 12.

According to Edenvale SAPS communications officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, Stats staff will conduct face-to-face interviews.

These will focus on employment, the labour market in South Africa, as well as the official unemployment rate.

“Staff can also be verified by contacting the Stats SA provincial office.”

The information gathered by Stats SA will be used for planning, decision-making, monitoring and assessment of policies by government departments, businesses and the general public.

Mashile said Stats SA is mandated in terms of the Statistics Act No. 6 of 1999 to collect household information from the public.

“All information provided by respondents is kept confidential and will not be passed onto any individual or organisation for any purpose.”

Mashile said data will be released in aggregated format.

“Residents are asked to take note that Section 16 of the act imposes an obligation on all people to answer all questions put orally or in writing to them by Stats SA officials and to answer them honestly and truthfully,” said Mashile.

He said Edenvale SAPS has been notified of their activity in the area and will carefully assess the visit.
“If you do not trust the vehicle at your gate, notify the police or your security companies,” said Mashile.
