CoE completes road repairs on Shelton Avenue and Cunningham Road

“For now, it’s one road down, several hundred more to do, but I do know the Edenvale depot does its very best.”

Repairs to a portion of Minuach Road were completed and unveiled by the CoE and contractors.

The repairs, done over three weeks, were between Shelton Avenue and Cunningham Road.

The CoE’s Road Department members, Ward 92 Clr Kade Guerriero, Opal Projects and Management and 2MC Consulting Engineers attended the unveiling on November 16.

In 2019, work for a Rand Water construction project parallel to the R24 started.

The project saw the replacement of a section of the H5 pipeline between Hurlyvale and Kelvin that was leaking.
The project spanned 3km.

While it was ongoing, community members and Guerriero raised specific concerns about the damage inflicted on Minuach Road by heavy machinery.

Last May, Guerriero said heavy machinery operating on the road contributed to its deterioration.

After the repairs, Guerriero said density tests were done, and the road reopened on November 16.

“It’s open and in good condition. We got approval from a resident telling us the road looks great, so we are very excited,” said Guerriero.

Guerriero said that presently, Rand Water is clearing their site.

“We can only thank the Edenvale team, Eugene Jansen van Vuuren, Andrew Rankweteke and everyone for their hard work. This is one of the few projects when we haven’t had any snags or problems,” said Guerriero.

He said another benefit of the project was skills development because local labour was used.

Besides redoing the portion of the road, Guerriero said it was also repainted, and new signage was erected.
He congratulated and thanked all involved and thanked Ekurhuleni.

“For now, it is one road down, several hundred more to do, but I do know that the Edenvale depot does its best,” said Guerriero.

He said the budget for the project was still part of the 2021 administration’s funds.

“Eugene made sure everything was in order, tested the road,”

He said all that remains to be installed are the luminescent cats’ eyes.

Other roads in Edenvale that are a priority for Guerriero include Shelton Avenue, Cunningham Road, Kruin Street, and Partridge Avenue.
