Hunt for treasure and have fun at Melville Koppies

Choose from a 5km self-guided hike, a 3km self-guided heritage trail, or guide yourselves across the 55-hectare nature reserve.

The hunt for golden ribbon grass in exchange for an Easter egg may be over, but there are other treasures like ground orchids to search for.

These plants with dainty flowers and tuberous roots pop up again each year in the same spot.

Melville Koppies volunteer Jenny Grice said the plants are nurtured by the environment that they live in.

“They thrive in undisturbed nature reserves like Melville Koppies where moths can peacefully pollinate them at night so that more of them can continue to thrive and grow. Come and see for yourselves,” said Grice.
