Gym opened for staff members of Edenvale Regional Hospital

"I am excited to continue with my fitness journey at the staff gym,”

Edenvale Regional Hospital officially launched the staff gym on May 15.

The gym is an extension of the OHS and Employee Wellness programme.

The gym is located on the first floor of the nurses’ home and is accessible to staff members through a booking system.

It was unveiled during a visit by Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko.

Thabile Mkhatshwa, communications manager of the hospital said the facility will serve as a cornerstone for healthcare professionals, providing them with the tools they need to maintain their health, which is so crucial in their demanding roles.

The gym will feature a variety of fitness equipment, wellness programmes, and spaces designed to cater to the diverse needs of the staff, ensuring accessibility and inclusivity for all.

Staff member and gym enthusiast Elias Maputle could not contain his excitement at the launch of the gym.

As a nurse working in the Outpatient Department, Elias relies on his health to serve the community of Edenvale and Alexander.

Elias was amongst the first staff members to test out the machines and he was not reluctant to give the machines a thumbs up.

“I worked as a personal trainer for years so this is a dream come true for me. I am excited to continue with my fitness journey at the staff gym,” he added.

Organised labour representative Zandile Sithole of the Democratic Nursing Organization of South Africa (DENOSA) spoke on the importance of facilities like these.

“This facility is proof that we work in an environment where the employer cares for its staff.

“The gym is a symbol of hope and it asserts the belief that healthcare workers are better healthcare providers when they are fit and healthy. You cannot separate health from wellness,” she said.

Thabile encouraged staff members to make use of the facility which includes services from the dietetics department that incorporate meal plans for optimal results.
