Court postpones Edenvale murder case for further investigation

Further investigation is required by the state into Strydom’s murder.

The case against murder accused David Knox has been postponed to allow for further investigation by the state.

Knox (56) made his second appearance in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court today, July 31 where it was made known that information the state requires includes the post-mortem report, as well as CCTV footage of the incident.

Knox is accused of murder after he shot and killed former professional heavyweight boxer Mark ‘Striker’ Strydom (54) at Grand Slam Sports Diner on July 20.

Police are investigating a case of murder and Edenvale Police Station’s communication officer Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile said the victim was declared dead by paramedics on the scene.

Preliminary investigations suggest the incident began with a dispute at the sports bar. It is alleged that the victim got into an argument with a woman, however, staff intervened. Following this, a dispute then started between the deceased and Knox.

“When it became chaotic, the deceased pulled out a firearm and fired four or five shots randomly.

“The suspect [Knox] also pulled out a gun and shot him [Strydom] two times,” Mashile said.
