Miss Earth South Africa has joined Saheti School to celebrate Arbor Month and launch the eWaste Collection campaign for September and October.
Ella Bella Leite, the organisation’s director, opened the assembly with a call for a change in mindset.
She asked that the learners embrace the philosophy of being ‘Earth Warriors’.

The task presented to the learners was that they participate in the recycling efforts at the school and at home.
Leite asked that the learners reuse what resources and recyclables they can, and commit to reducing their unnecessary waste.
The eWaste Collection launched on September 16 as part of World Recycle Week.
“You have to put on green glasses for they are the earth lenses that remind you to take care of people and the planet.
“They force you to stop and look around you at ways of greening your lives, creating a lighter footprint, and in doing so, you serve people and the planet,” explained Leite.
The assembly was joined by Justine Munusamy and Dimpho Makgato, who are finalists in the Miss Earth South Africa Programme.
They were excited to engage with the learners and to share the importance of disposing of their electronic waste responsibly.

The school community is dedicated to embracing more sustainable practices and passing on the dual importance of environmental stewardship and social responsibility.
From September 16 to 21, the school will be participating in a Recycling Week initiative, collecting e-waste as part of Miss Earth South Africa’s broader environmental campaign.
Leite closed off by saying, “There is a critical need to safeguard the planet and preserve South Africa’s natural heritage as a part of Heritage and Arbor Month.”
