Bus crash: 12 killed and 45 injured

The 45 people injured were taken to Edenvale, OR Tambo and Tembisa hospitals.

A bus crash near OR Tambo International Airport claimed 12 lives and left 45 others injured on the morning of March 11.

The collision occurred at approximately 06:45.

Emergency services responded, transporting the injured to Edenvale, OR Tambo and Tembisa hospitals.

“This is a disaster. We are lost for words,” said MMC for Roads and Transport Planning in Ekurhuleni, Clr Andile Mngwevu, who was at the scene.

“To see so many bodies lying around is heartbreaking.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased, and we pray for a speedy recovery for the injured.”

Vehicles back up as crews work at the scene of this morning’s fatal bus crash near OR Tambo International Airport.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

At the time of reporting, police and forensic teams were combing the scene for evidence.

Initial reports have not confirmed whether other vehicles were involved.
