Annual Edenvale marathon sells out

This year’s event had the highest number of runners and attendees post Covid-19.

The 2025 StaminoGro Edenvale Marathon exceeded expectations when runners and community members supported the annual race.

Hosted by Rand Road Warriors (RRW) and held on March 9, the organisers described the event as being a sellout success.

Over 5 100 entrants participated in the event across three distances – the 42km marathon, the 15km blitz and a 5km fun run.

Runners set off for the 15km and 42km distances from Linksfield Road.

The routes of the races started from Linksfield Road and wound their way through Edenvale before ending at Edenvale High School.

This year’s event had the highest amount of runners and attendees post Covid-19.

The winner of the 5km fun run was Myles Ndlovu.

Leading the runners home in the 15km blitz was Kabelo Ziyavuya Mwahla in time of 1:01:24. Albert Kangor followed him (1:01:33) and Mpumelelo Mokoena (1:01:34) was third.

The first woman to cross the 15km finish line was Kate Van Jaarsveld at 1:09:50. Carol Smith followed Van Jaarsveld at 1:11:31 and Corlize Stoltz third (1:12:10).

Leading the women over the 42km finish line was Cobie Smith at 3:04:19.

Salome Cooper placed second (3:14:00) while Debbie O’Mahony placed third (3:17:37).

Race director, Robin Hide, explained the event hosted by RRW was a sellout, with entries having to be closed a week before the event.

“RRW, as a relatively small community club, was blown away with the favourable response to our event from the running and walking fraternity and is grateful for the support,” said Hide.

He expressed his thanks on behalf of the race organising committee and warriors to their sponsors and partners.

“We thank StaminoGro for their continued support; this was their seventh year of support of the Edenvale marathon.

“We also thank new sponsors Baseline Runners, Pie City, Mamba Security and Zippy Labels,” said Hide.

In the lead-up to the event, Hide said Essentially Edenvale, one of this year’s race beneficiaries, played a role in grass cutting, cleaning up areas of the route and fixing potholes.

“In light of their assistance, we thank the Essentially Edenvale team.”

Leading the runners home in the 15 kilometer blitz was Kabelo Ziyavuya Mwahla in time of 1:01:24.

Hide also thanked Edenvale High School for use of their facilities as a start and finish venue and Dowerglen High School, which provided parking.

Following the race, the organisers also thanked the residents of Edenvale for their patience and understanding on race day.

Hide also thanked the RRW members and those from nearby clubs and organizations for their race-day contributions.
