Edenvale SPCA warns of unusual snake sightings
It is believed that recent sightings have been caused by the unusual weather and late rains this year.
Edenvale SPCA recently urged the community and pet owners to be on the lookout for any snakes.
This comes after the SPCA received numerous calls over the past several weeks regarding snake sightings.
According to Edenvale SPCA in South Africa, snake season lasts from September to November as the weather warms up and the reptiles emerge from their shelters in search of food and mates.

The Edenvale branch stated that with the increase in calls, it is believed that recent sightings have been caused by the unusual weather and late rains this year.
Snake safety tips provided by the SPCA include:
• Be aware of your surroundings and pay attention to where you’re walking, especially in areas with dense vegetation or rocks.
• Keep your property tidy as snakes are attracted to areas with piles of rubbish, rubble, bricks, or wood.
• Do not kill snakes, they play an important role in the ecosystem such as controlling rodent populations.
• If you are bitten by a snake, seek medical attention immediately.
• Call a professional snake handler or the SPCA.
