Suspect caught in Bedfordview with stolen motorcycle and no legal papers
EMPD officers arrested a 49-year-old man in Bedfordview on May 23 after discovering he was in possession of a stolen motorcycle, using a fraudulent licence disc and in the country without legal documentation. The suspect now faces multiple charges, including fraud and immigration-related offences.
The EMPD arrested a 49-year-old man in Bedfordview for having a stolen motorcycle, using a fraudulent licence disc and immigration-related offences on May 23.
According to a statement from the EMPD, officers from the Overloads Unit were doing operations at about 15:50 when they stopped a motorcyclist on the corner of Dean and Van Buuren roads.
The bike had no working brake lights, prompting officers to investigate further, who then discovered that the licence disc was fraudulent.

A system check revealed no matching records for the disc.

Checks on the engine number showed that the motorcycle was reported stolen under a Norkem Park case number and initially registered as a Bigboy motorcycle.
The man, who identified himself as a Malawian national, failed to produce a valid driver’s licence when requested and could not provide a valid passport or documentation confirming his legal presence in SA.
His unsatisfactory answers saw him arrested and taken to the Bedfordview Police Station.
Officers impounded the man faces multiple charges, including possession of a stolen motorcycle, fraud and contravening Section 41 of the Immigration Act.
He will soon appear in court.
The EMPD said Immigration Services were notified and would continue investigations into the man’s legal status in SA.
