Police seek VW Polo driver after woman’s death
The police are searching for a suspect known as 'John', who allegedly murdered a 30-year-old woman after picking her up in a white VW Polo with cloned number plates.
The police have activated their investigative teams and resources to locate an African man who goes by the name John (a pseudonym), wanted in connection with the alleged murder of Olorato Mongale.
The suspect is believed to be driving a white Volkswagen Polo fitted with a cloned number plate – LT 57 JG GP – originally registered to a Toyota Hilux. Investigators confirmed the number plate is fraudulent.
Mongale reportedly went on a date with the suspect on May 25. He collected her from her residential complex in Athol, Johannesburg, at about 15:00.

According to the police, the suspect drove with her through Alexandra and Kew, and between Alexandra and Lombardy West, he allegedly murdered her and dumped her body.
Her belongings, including a cellphone and handbag were abandoned on Ninth Road in Kew, Johannesburg.
Police officers, with assistance from community members, discovered her body less than two hours later.
Police are investigating the possibility of the suspect having an accomplice during the murder.

This case has sparked further concern as police investigate a similar incident involving a 39-year-old woman. Someone dumped her body on Catherine Street, Sandton, on May 8.
In a related matter, police recently arrested a 24-year-old man who was targeting women on Facebook using a fake identity.
He lured a 28-year-old woman to Limpopo under false pretences and allegedly raped her multiple times.
The police rescued the woman at a filling station in Giyani. The suspect appeared in court on charges of kidnapping and rape and remains in custody.
Police urge women to remain vigilant, especially when meeting new acquaintances.

They encouraged women to share their whereabouts with friends or family, meet in public spaces, and avoid secluded areas.
Police request the public to report any sightings of the white VW Polo with the cloned number plate or any information that could assist in the investigation.
