Edenvale police focus on child safety during Youth Month
As Youth Month begins, Edenvale SAPS reaffirmed their commitment to child protection by joining forces with YANA for a Child Protection Week event at Edenvale Regional Hospital, promoting safety and awareness among the youth.
Edenvale SAPS remains dedicated and committed to the protection of children; with the arrival of June, Youth Month, this has been put in the spotlight as police carry out their duties.
According to Edenvale Police Station’s communications officer, Warrant Officer Jacob Mashile, this is achieved through an integrated, multidisciplinary approach.
On May 28, members from Edenvale SAPS joined forces with You Are Not Alone Women and Family Centre (YANA) when they paid a visit to Edenvale Regional Hospital to commemorate the ongoing Child Protection Week campaign.

The CEO of the hospital, Dr Vilakazi, outlined the purpose of the visit and highlighted the mandate and commitment of the SAPS to ensure that vulnerable groups and children are protected.

He said the children were taught safety tips in a fun and interactive manner that included role-playing.
“The protection of society’s children is everyone’s responsibility, and the police urge the community to continue to report any suspected child abuse, neglect or exploitation not only during Child Protection Week but when and wherever there are any suspicions to your nearest police station,” said Mashile.
Edenvale Police Station commander, Colonel Ntombomzi Basholo, welcomed the initiative and encouraged members to act as fast as possible when responding to crime, especially incidents involving men or related to child abuse.
Crime can be reported to 08600 10111 or through the Childline on 116, available 24 hours a day.
