Two EMPD officers tragically killed in ambush
Their service pistols were stolen, and the criminals fled. A manhunt is underway as the EMPD and community mourn the loss of these dedicated officers.
The EMPD has confirmed the deaths of two officers, constables Thabang Piet Maluleke and Kagiso Francis Motshabi, who were fatally shot while reporting for night duty in Thembisa.
The attack took place on the evening of June 12, when the officers, both members of the EMPD’s Intervention Unit, were ambushed and robbed of their service pistols.
The criminals fled on foot to a nearby getaway vehicle.

The funeral service for Maluleke and Motshabi was on June 19 in Kaalfontein, where family, friends, colleagues and community members gathered to pay their respects.
EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato expressed sorrow over the loss.
“This is disheartening and a great loss for the EMPD and the CoE.
“Law enforcement officials are actively pursuing those responsible for this heinous crime, who will be brought to justice.
“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the bereaved families and colleagues.”
A manhunt for the criminals is ongoing.
