Two EMPD officers fatally wounded while reporting for duty

A manhunt was launched for the suspects who robbed the officers of their service pistols and fled on foot last night, June12.

The EMPD has confirmed the death of two officers who were fatally wounded while reporting for night duty in Thembisa on the evening of June 12.

The officers, who were part of the EMPD’s Intervention Unit, were declared dead on the scene.

According to EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato, the suspects robbed the officers of their service pistols and fled on foot to a nearby getaway vehicle.

“This is disheartening and a great loss for the EMPD and the City of Ekurhuleni. Law enforcement officials are on the ground, and those responsible for this heinous crime will be brought to book,” said Makgato.

“Our heartfelt and sincere condolences go out to the bereaved families and colleagues.”
