Edenvale CPF warns residents of municipal scam
"Stay alert and keep our neighbourhoods safe."

The Edenvale CPF has issued a warning to residents and property owners to remain vigilant following reports of a scam involving individuals posing as municipal employees.
According to the ECPF, it has received information about scammers sending WhatsApp messages to residents, claiming they will be visiting the property to disconnect services.
Fiona Pickett, PRO of the ECPF, explained that the individuals are falsely claiming to represent the municipality in order to gain access to private properties.

“The motive behind the scam is currently unclear,” said Pickett. “However, it may be an attempt to extort money or unlawfully enter residents’ homes.”
The ECPF shared the following important safety tips with the community:
Residents will never be notified of disconnections via WhatsApp or informal SMS.
Municipal disconnection notices follow formal, written procedures.

Do not allow unknown individuals who claim to be from the municipality onto your property.
Be cautious even if identification is presented – fake IDs can be used.
Block and report suspicious numbers on WhatsApp immediately.
If someone arrives at your property and insists on entry, contact your private security provider or SAPS immediately.
Pickett urged community members to report any emergencies or suspicious activity to SAPS by dialling 10111, contacting their security provider, or using the ECPF’s emergency communication channel.
“Let’s stay alert and keep our neighbourhoods safe,” she said.
